Museum Arnhem and Collectie de Groen present SETUP 03 DE.GROEN x MUSEUM ARNHEM. DE.GROEN's private collection of contemporary visual art is combined with works from the museum's collection. Sometimes traceable, but often purely intuitive, relationships are sought between works from both collections. Each work stands on its own, of course, but if you look closely, you will see that the works sometimes show a certain kinship in unexpected ways. A guided tour of DE.GROEN is a small journey of discovery in which the works from the museum and the private collection enter into dialogue with each other.
Just as we walk through our own collection and select works for SETUP, we searched the museum's large collection together with Mirjam Westen.
Marjolein de Groen: "Our collection includes, for example, Berndnaut Smilde's cloud. It is interesting to hang his “Nimbus DE.GROEN” (2017) opposite Helma Pantus' work from the museum collection. The work is called “Birds”, but I see a low-hanging cloud. I am curious to see how this cloud relates to that of Berndnaut Smilde. It is surprising to see Janine van Oene's work alongside two old works by Ad Gerritsen, and in this way we have combined even more works from the museum collection with our own collection."
