With this exhibition, Erik returns briefly from New York to the city and even to the building where he studied in the 1990s. He has now been living and working in New York for a number of years. We are delighted to be showing brand new work here in our space and, together with Erik, we look forward to hearing your reactions.
My films are constructed around duration, temporisation, silence and repetition. In this way, I aim to build up a tension that gradually changes the viewer and tests their patience. Because there is no climax or clue, the viewer must experience my work without expectation.
In the film “East River” (2016), we see how I drift with the current of this tidal river/strait, with the skyline of midtown Manhattan and the sounds of the city in the background.
