In addition to a few other works, we have a large work with a reflective surface in our collection. Two stainless steel panels with a subtle line drawing burned into them. The burned lines make the surface irregular. Van Eijk thus deprives the viewer of the opportunity to look at a smooth and sleek surface. The drawing determines the surface. You can decipher the drawing, but is that necessary? Van Eijk's work always reflects on the reality outside. It is not nature but the man-made world that inspires him. It is an almost abstract work in which that man-made reality is subtly present.
