Marjolijn de Wit

The four small ceramic objects by Marjolijn de Wit are not what they appear to be. This goes for the stone in particular. A stone picked up from the beach, polished smooth by the water and wind. But this stone is different. The stone is light and feels like fabric. Similarly, the puzzle; disassemble and reassemble? Not this puzzle. The ceramic rods have been put together by the artist with great caution. An attempt to dissect the puzzle will inevitably lead to breaking it. Finally, the geometric shape betrays a certain heaviness until you feel that it is light and delicate. The work of de Wit is very deliberate, while at the same time it is intuitive. Perhaps, with these objects she wants to make a statement about the fragility of super ordinary things.<br /> &nbsp;
