Maria Roosen

Maria Roosen works intensely and intensively, maintaining a remarkable balance between perception, intuition and physicality. Her work is about life itself and is hyper-personal. The watercolours function as an inexhaustible source, with the liquid forms, like the glassware, solidified in their material. Physicality, vulnerability and emotion form the foundation. It is sensory, bold, feminine and humorous. Maria: ‘I often refer to my works as utensils for a certain feeling; tools for feelings.’

The way in which the delicate black glass bubbles hang from a rack normally used to hang a broom or rake is characteristic of Maria’s work. Despite its fragility, the work exudes a compelling strength. It reads like a spatial musical score, without sound.

Maria Roosen (Oisterwijk, 1957) works in Arnhem.
