In Danny Foolen's large sculpture of stacked spaces, gravity changes. Is it an autonomous sculpture or a useless model? Doorways, baseboards, ascending or descending spaces. Foolen asks you to see through the image, to look beyond it. In fact, he asks the viewer to forget the image and only see the space that is created. The wood, the joints, the varnish, finished and unfinished together. These are the means Foolen needs to show what he sees. Foolen cannot do without these means and materials to give shape to his idea. But... he is looking for less. We will have to wait and see where that will lead in the future.
Danny Foolen (Eindhoven, 1985) works in Utrecht.
