Arash moves effortlessly between everything. He seems to avoid committing himself and appears elusive. He seems to want to do everything quickly, at a gallop, running away from nothing but also going nowhere. And all this with humour, but also sentimentality and romanticism. He sets no standards for what is good and evil, beautiful and ugly.
Arash has no great truth or message. But along the way, he deals us some hard blows with all our prejudices and preconceived ideas. Like a great charmer, he juggles pleasure and chance in his work.
Arash: “The surface, the subject, the object, the thing & the actor all swirl down in a looped sink. A drainage of a visual soup.”
Arash Fakhim Esmaeilian (Teheran, 1987) works in Arnhem.
