"Bang" (afraid) Is it afraid in the sense of fearful, or is it afraid (bang) like a clap of thunder? Albert Goederond's works are created using the ancient technique of pyrography. After applying a drawing with a wood burner, he usually adds color. They are drawings and images on small wooden panels. It seems as if Goederond surrenders himself to whatever material happens to be available, regardless of size. He simply starts with it and it emerges under his fingers, or does he have a preconceived plan after all? These are well-thought-out, labor-intensive panels, always charged with tension. Sometimes a word emerges from the grooves, such as the word “bang,” which is cleverly hidden in the image of an infinite number of lines. Obsessive, driven, and focused, his work offers the viewer a personal glimpse into his reality.
Albert Goederond (Schiedam, 1963) works in Arnhem.
